African Market in Santa Cruz de Tenerife

Any visit to Santa Cruz de Tenerife should include an explore of this fabulous colonial looking market.

Otherwise known as the famous Mercado Nuestra Señora de Africa, this is the main market in the Tenerife Capital and offers a dazzling bazaar of over 300 stalls selling fresh local produce. It is held in a courtyard with a very distinctive pink clock tower building and is just a short walk from the bus station. Here you’ll find the very freshest and best fruit, vegetables, flowers, meat, dairy produce and herbs and spices. Some of the fruit and veg are a complete mystery.

Opening Hours: Sat-Thu: 6:00-14:00, Fri 6:00-14:00, 17:00-19.30.

On Sunday mornings the streets around the African Market throng with hundreds of stalls at the colourful weekly rastro (flea market).

It’s a great place to pick up souvenirs and bargains.
